SANITATION
The Sanitation changes will include the new citywide oneDAY Sanitation program, going into effect in March. This change will mean your trash will be picked up one day a week instead of two. The new program has been tested with several neighborhoods to prove it will work – and it does work. When you recycle, using the blue recycle carts, the amount of trash you have will be significantly less. Therefore, residents will no longer need trash picked up twice a week. You can read more about this on the Sanitation webpage http://www.onedaydallas.com/.
CENSUS 2010
I. One of the most important rules that we advise our community members is to never give strangers your personal information. But assisting officials in getting accurate 2010 U.S. Census Bureau count is an important exception. If you do not return your survey, you may be contacted by phone or visited by a census worker. Please use the following guidelines from the Better Business Bureau:
Yard of the Month - December 20096914 Winchester St. TimberCreek Development PlansAt the intersection of Skillman and Northwest Highway, the TimberCreek Apartments were demolished to make way for a new retail development. New details of the plans have recently been made available including the names of the anchor stores: Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and JC Penny. There is a full brochure for more info. Dallas Police Department Expanded Neighborhood PatrolNeighborhoods are moving toward a program that's been around for quite awhile. It is called the Expanded Neighborhood Patrol (ENP). This program allows residents in a neighborhood to come together to fund additional patrolling by an off duty police officer in an official DPD vehicle. With all the budget cuts being made by the City of Dallas, one change for DPD is less overtime. We can help take up that slack for the officers by employing them to patrol our neighborhood. For more details, go to the Northeast Substation's website. Northwest Highway "Three Bridges" Construction ProjectYou've probably noticed the construction going on near our neighborhood on Northwest Highway. TX DOT is currently doing preliminary utility work. The main project, building new bridges across White Rock Creek and raising the road above the flood level, is scheduled to start in the Fall. For more details, here are a couple of articles from PegasusNews.com: Payday LendersFor information about Payday Lenders in the commercial area around our neighborhood and future efforts to curb these businesses, click on the link below. This information will be updated as we meet with Lake Highlands and city officials: |
